hi Tom very good catch. never seen such a lizard before. australia has its fair share of sand and desert though not around adelaide. the 300 + the 2X TC must have allowed you to shoot at quite a distance from the lizard i guess. also, i was wondering what was the magnification factor of the combinat...

Rare Flower
both shot with the 20D/100f2.8 at f8. the flower seemed to have bloomed out of the plant's trunk. not sure if it was a palm or a ginger plant.

Hi Tom I see you're on an equipment-rampage-phase at the moment. 300/f2.8L and all. Well, I've been using the 20 for almost two years now. I should say I prefer it to the XT because it has an AF cross-sensor in the centre which the XT does not. I find this cross-sensor very helpful in low-ligh...

yeah beetleman, I've heard that you have a lot of em love bugs in florida. and yeah, the one here in these images looks 'aerodynamic' because of the shallow dof, its own position on the edge of the weed, and the angle at which it was shot. thanks ken. yeah, the background is rather clean. in PS, I d...

Thanks guys. I had taken up to a hunderd images of the ant in a span of two weeks. I had also uploaded a few on a free web server. Unfortunately, I have used up my quota of three images for this thread, so all I can do is to provide a direct link to the images on the free server. Hope this doesn't i...

Pregnant Ant
First time that I came across this ant which has a green coloured abdomen and a red/brown upper body. The distended tummy shows that it was pregnant. And indeed it was. Shot around a flower pot. (It spun some protective web on a broken pot and laid about ten white, elongated eggs which hatched in tw...

DF and BF portraits
Hi there. I'm back with insects this time. Kind of like the clean background for the DF. The lighting for the BF might be a bit harsh though. I passed the images through Elements' NR. Do they appear artificially clean? Regards Gunn http://www.photomacrography1.net/images/IMG_7174-650.jpg 20D/100mm h...

oops, these images of the monkeys aren't exactly considered macros within the strict definition of the term. i have been so advised by the admin staff. the logical thing to do would be to remove them without further ado. thanks again to Rik who took the trouble to analyse the pics and discussed them...

Hi there Rik Thanks for your thoughts and the response. For me, it was more of a case of "not knowing what went right," assuming it did go right. The details you pointed out are certainly food for thought, at least as far as I am concerned. I tried out you suggestion of removing the artificial catch...

Orange at Birth
Hi guys, it's been a while. This one is not our usual dose of 1:1 insect-macro. It's a silver-leaf monkey. Interestingly, they are orange at birth but gradually turn very dark towards adulthood. These images are more of a close-up than the traditional macros we have been accustomed to in this region...
