modest butterfly

It looks like that I can post again. My provider had some problems. This is a small butterfly. It does not have many colours but in some cases you don't need a lot of colours. :) Most butterflies have too many colours anyway. Vain little critters! :) The weather is also a bit autumn-like at the mome...

Brilliant!

And a very puzzling depth of field! :) The eyes are in focus but inbetween the eyes it is a little less sharp. Stacked?

Yup! I've got a new pair of glasses  :)

I can't upload anything for a week now. My provider has technical problems. So I think I'll have a small posting holiday and let you folks do all the work:)

Hi Charles, Very interesting! Could that be a small flagellum in the first image? I believe amoebae are related to certain types of flagellates.

I can't post at the moment. Something wrong with my server.

Charlie, I already suspected it was made in the shade. This type of light is impossible to make with a flash, except perhaps in a studio:) It is a brilliant result! The great thing about Helicon focus is that you don't have to close the aperture that much. so you can work without a flash. But of cou...

Great!!!! Nice even illumination! I guess you used a tripod and natural light? Or a very diffused flash. I am curious because I am experimenting with flash but I think I have to get a more even illumination for that!

Thanks for the picture. I will also try that! I also have that 150 mm sigma. Great lens. Quite heavy though. You need to use a support. About the jumping spider eyes. I read it focusses by a movable retina. And they can also follow a prey by shifting the retina. So the spider can sit motionless and ...

I think a compound eye is less accurate. It gives an overall view but with not much detail. Jumping spiders can actually focus with these eyes! They probably have stereoscopic vision with these front eyes. Ideal for hunting!

Ear shell

In june I have been to Bretagne, France, and I have photographed many tide pool organisms. Some I photographed in the wild and some in a little tank. This is a mollusc with cute little eyes! Haliotis tuberculata I think. The english name is Abalone or sea ear. It has holes on the top of the shell an...

Nice!!! What design flash diffuser did you make, Tom? And another thing. I have done some macro of marine organisms and I think the quality of the glasss makes a difference! Has anyone been thinking about that? There is optical glass with better quality and if you make a little tank from that glass ...
