MacroMike: I drop my anglefinder to the water. :) I have to take it apart afterward.
Sortvind: I achieved the magnification with a 100mm macro lens and a 50 mm lens reversed. And I cropped the original further a little more than 50%.

wtrfall: The photographic season just started and I went to a marsh picture hungry. I go to the water witha pair of waders on, and watched and hunted. The water was full of life. Bigger creatures and smaller ones. I regret now I have no microscopy, because I should continue the hunting at home...

Springtail as a Prey

I just came acoross theese creatures on the surface of a pond. They are very little 2-3mm long. I think the predator is a little bug and the prey is a springtail.

Yes, sure Ken. They are both workers (female). They share all food with each other. If some ant is beg for food she will get it from the others. It is called by some the social stomach.

Ants are back

The insects begin to emerge here after a long winter. I photographed these ants today. They are some kind of Lasius. Probably Lasius neglectus.

Ant Portrait

I browsing my archives. Here I found a shot of an ant. It was not compeletly in the frame as I experimented with larger magnifications. I cropped from the image some more to have a portrait only.

Can you ID it?

It is really annoys me that I dont know what kind of critter is it on the picture. http://www.photomacrography1.net/images/_MG_7344-copy.jpg I take this picture in south Mexico. I'm not really know the insect there. I guess this is some kind of cricket. Equipment: 20D + kit lens + reversed 50 mm lens

Thanks Rik,
It is something worth a try. :)
I tried a mirror lens one time, and made some picture with the dount highlights. It is really ineresting, but I do not met with the external aperture plate. So the idea is new to me.
