Thank you for comments. Mike, yes this is natural light, but I've used iso 800. I just started using flash this year, and havin't figured out how to actually use fast syncronisation yet. And thanks Rik for those links, I've always struggled to find articles and stuff on the internet. Alle three print...

Flight machine

Dragonflies from the Aeshna genus are represented by six species in Denmark. These are surely the most difficult dragonflies to photograph, because of mainly two factors. They are very aware when perched and seldom tolerate in incoming photographer. They are on the wings for hours at a time, especia...

Rey, I must say you always get your images to stand out beautiful. If it is the bugs in Asia, your photographing skills, or clever editing I don't know, but it looks like a good combination of all three. Well done, love your pictures. That said, your bottom photo does not live up to the clarity and ...

Beautiful photo.
I've photographed something similar, but maybe not quite the same species. I better post one later as this is cicada week :-)

Interesting photos Ken. Regarding the eyes and vision, I have to turn to dragonflies :-) Some species like Libellula have the largest ommatidia on top of the eyes. At the same time this part of the eyes are not very curved. These two factors make the vision above the eyes very good, and these specie...

That's an amazing close up, had no idea they looked like that. I've tried to have five on my body at once. I always have boots on when out photographing, and after starting to stuff my pants down inside my boots, I haven't had so many ticks on me. One good advice is to take a shower after being out,...

Thank you for the comment Ken. I find the series a bit funny, with the first picture showing some wild overshooting of the females movement. The were close to linkage at picture 2 (top-right) but needed another go, before getting it right. Usually the damselflies just form the linkage in the first a...

Mating Wheel

This picture serves the purpose of explaining some more about mating for Odonata (damselflies and dragonflies), which was discussed in http://www.photomacrography1.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3486 a thread posted of a male damselfly by MikeBin. The male damselfly has two supperior (upper) and two infe...

My experience using 10D on damselflies is that it requires real attention to light measurements. I often need to stop down maybe 1 - 1 2/3 for shots like this, to avoid the blue colours getting too bright. It depends on the light measurement settings of the camera though (evaluated etc) I must say t...

Thats a great photo of the wasp working.
Good to hear how much work you've put into a photo like this. It has paid off. Often people will think a photo like this takes 0 seconds to get.

Eaten alive #2

Here is a close up at the same incident as in http://www.photomacrography1.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3434 The damselflies head is here seen behind the prey. I suspect the cranefly is not alive in this shot, it's head is missing :-) http://www.photomacrography1.net/images/aaa0024-10092005.jpg 10th Se...

Great photo and lovely colour pattern on that eye.

It is estimated that the insects with the highest number of ommatidia, some dragonflies of Aeshna and Anax species, has about 28.000 in each eye 8)
