Yellowstone in Winter

I've only been there once, for about a week last January, but it was a very special experience. You need honest-to-goodness cold weather gear for the trip, because it is BRUTAL. The temperature was in the teens for most of our trip, and it got up to the twenties at one point. Lowest temperature was ...

Good Lord! Beautiful country, but I'm afraid I'm not going to make it back in there either....Back when I was literally half the age I am now, I walked 21 miles in one day carrying a 72 pound pack....But that was because the Army made me do it! :-) And it was on nice, basically level trails. Now I'm...

Bosque del Apache

The microscopists might have got by without hearing about this place, but I'm sure anyone with even a toe dipped into classic nature photography has at least heard of the place, and probably seen more than a few photographs from it. I'm only mildly interested in birds, but I find the "birdscapes"--L...

The rookery is an amazing place, though I hear that all the birds abandoned it a bit mysteriously this year. :-( I went there once--For the field days of a short Arthur Morris seminar. A very awesome place!

Ants in the movies....With a reverie about an ant book.

Looks like a lot of fun, even though it ain't exactly "THE...

Wild that you caught that in mid-"flight"!

But don't the kickers in the world cup usually face TOWARDS the goal when they shoot?

WB, Gunn. This is a dramatic photo--Till someone else pointed it out, I had thought he was airborne! But after it's mentioned, I can see the blade he's sitting on. Very good background!

Actually, there really are flying....errr, gliding....snakes in Southeast Asia! I'd love to see one fly, but that's something I'll probably never pull off.
