Hi all,

I've just joined the forum this week and would like to offer a few macro shots as examples of the sort of stuff I do.

I do most of my images on a table top with some cheap studio flash. I do occasionally do images in the field and I have some of those on my website.

The first image is of the stamen of a Lily.

Image

Fuji S1 Pro with Nikon 105mm lens
F45 at 1/250 sec with flash

The next image is of the bit in an electric screwdriver.

Image

Nikon D70 with Nikon 105mm lens
F22 at 1/250 sec with flash
19 frames stacked using Helicon Focus

The final image is of 2 Craneflies (Daddy Longlegs) having a good time.

Image

Nikon D70 with Nikon 105mm lens
F5 at 1/370 sec. Handheld

There are lots more images on my website. Choose the Photography link from my home page and you will find most of my images split into sub groups by subject.

Thanks for letting me join the forum, I hope to learn more about macro and close up work and have been impressed by most of the images I've seen in the gallery.

Bye for now

Some nice images George. :D I noticed you use a Fuji S1 Pro. I have a Fuji S7000 which is a fixed lens but makes a pretty good marco camera. :D

I looked through your website right after your initial posting.

Lovely images!

I think you'll enjoy it here, and I'll be shocked if you don't learn some new stuff. I sure have :!: :D

(And hey, if you don't, then maybe you can teach the rest of us! )

Hi Ken,

I mostly use my D70 these days for macro shots, although I do like the S1. I carry a Fuji F10 every where I go, and most of the Butterfly shots on my website were taken using this camera.

Bye for now.

Hi Rik,

Thanks for the comments on my images.

I first took a macro image in 1971. Most of the time I struggle for suitable subjects that are tecnically challenging but also pleasing to the eye.

From what I've seen in the gallery, I'm sure I'll get some good instpiration for some new shots.

Bye for now.

Hi Mike,

The Lily is one of my favourites too.

I like taking plant and flower shots a lot. A large number of the images on my site are devoted to plants and flowers.

Hi Sue,

Do you mean this one from the flower section on my site?

If so, I agree. I have this image framed on an A3 print, and I never tire of looking at it.

Bye for now.

Hi George, good to see new members joining.
Your 2nd photo of the screwdriver is really cool, here the use of stacking creates "infinite" dof. Everything is seen like viewing a model on a 3D Cad screen.

Your flower picture above is lovely coloured and nicely framed.
I really like it.

Hi Erland,

The Helicon stacking software was a Christmas present to myself. I used to get a bit annoyed at how shallow the depth of field is with macro, particularly since I'm tring to get images of smaller and smaller objects. I've recently been experimenting with taking images through a microscope.

It doesn't work well for all subjects, but I'm having fun trying it on as many as I can take.

Bye for now.

Welcome, George. I've downloaded Heliconfocus but have never tried it.
You have some nice pics on your site and I wish I can also carry an F11 everywhere I go (F11 should be better than F10 for macro?)
I hope you've been successful at keeping the weight down as well!
:D
