Variegated Fritillary

Post by S. Alden »

Again, from my files.

Euptoieta claudia. The larvae is brightly colored with fleshy spines. They feed on pansy, violet, johnny-jump-up and wild flax. They are usually found in the southern states, but during the summer, a few will make it to my backyard

This is beautiful Sue, something we lack in NZ - we have only two or three kinds of butterfly.

No, I do not get these in my yard that often, so I will keep it until I get a better image

I'm not allowed to look at photos of variegated fritillary, as photos of that sort of activity are illegal in Oklahoma! We are a conservative state, and just not friendly to alternative lifestyles! :o

So I can't mention that the background on this is busy, but nice, and that you captured the spread wings of the butterfly sharply and very well. If I'd broken the law and looked at the shot, I could tell you that, but I didn't, so I can't!
