I just came acoross theese creatures on the surface of a pond. They are very little 2-3mm long. I think the predator is a little bug and the prey is a springtail.

Yep you got it Peter, its a Springtail alright. I don't know what the other bug is but you got a great shot. Looks like the Springtail just rolled over and died to get it over with.

wtrfall: The photographic season just started and I went to a marsh picture hungry.
I go to the water witha pair of waders on, and watched and hunted. The water was full of life. Bigger creatures and smaller ones. I regret now I have no microscopy, because I should continue the hunting at home with a little sample from that water.

Nice shot. Great DOF and sharp detail at this magnification.
It's a scary thought having my digital camera suspended over water. It always amazes me how some little critters can stand on the surface tension of water.
