Loxodes are ciliates with specific numbers of special vesicles, so called Müller vesicles.
The function is still unknown, probably an intracellular gravireceptor. The first image shows
the front of a Loxodes magnus (thanks Mr. Ott for the ID) focused on the Müller vesicles.
I counted 15 Müller vesicles and 17-20 macronuclei on L. magnus.
Objective 100x Oil, DIC, Flash.
The second image shows a L. magnus squeezed a little by the cover glass, focused on
the macronuclei. Objective 40x Oil, DIC, Flash.
The third one is a Loxodes striatus (thanks Mr. Ott for the ID) which often is socialised with L. magnus.
At the bottom you see a part of a L. magnus.
Objective 100x Oil, DIC, Flash.
Ken, i apologize for breaking the image posting guidelines..
Thanks,
Gerd

Hello Gerd,
Beautiful shots! I especially like the neutral color of the background and the natural colors of the subjects. Great detail work.
I don't believe you violated any listing controls as the number was extended to 3 photos a while back.
Hope the planting is going well - did the weather finally improve?
All the best,
Mike

Thanks for the compliments !
Mike, yes, weather did improve, we had two weeks of wonderful early summer weather
with many things to work up. Actually we have a very cold and rainy period,
Temperatures about 8 to 10 degrees Celsius, and heavy rain every day, it is like rain forest !
We had a rainfall summation of about 200 mm the last 15 days !
All thermophile plants have great problems in the moment.....
Charly, that is the meaning of our forum which i like so much.
Everyone can learn new things from the others, i learned so much from you too !
