Guardian of the campsite?

Post by rjlittlefield »

I'm not quite sure what this critter is, but it was remarkably tame.
It stood guard over my campsite all night, and was still there when we left in the morning.

From the hike described here, with apologies to Ken's fancies.

Some beautiful country there Rik. :D I suppose the glacier was a bit of a disappointment. I alway imagine them as towering walls of ice scouring out deep ravines as they inch their way along. Global warming is something that I personally do not think much can be done about, mainly because it would involve all nations of the world to minimize or ban the use of fossile fuels, not just a few. The "guardian" seems to be doing a pretty good job of keeping an eye on things Rik, nice perspective there. BTW the Milky Way shot was pretty interesting too, may have to try that sometime myself. :D

Reminds me of Eyore, the small donkey in WINNIE THE POO (for those who have kids) :D Really beautiful country up there Rik, thank you for sharing the pictures with us. :D

Thanks, Ken.

Yeah, I've come to think of global warming in terms of an anthill and a steamroller. It's clear the steamroller's coming, it's unclear how much the ants had to do with the steamroller being there, and in any case it'd be a real bad bet that the ants can do much to stop it. You'd hope the ants would be spending their limited time and resources figuring out how to handle the impact, but no, they're busily rebuilding the historical architecture, even as the most vulnerable parts give way to the rumble of the approaching behemoth. Go figure.

The Milky Way shot was fun. 5 minutes on the stars, a few seconds "flashing" the campsite with my headlamp. Definitely easier to get right with digital than film!
