Paramecium santaclausii
Season's Greetings to everyone on the forum.
By the way, I knew I had a use for that pink Paramecium!
oh, and I spotted the Plough or Big Dipper and Orion in your greeting, Ken...
Graham
Cool, Very Cool. Novel greeting Graham. All the best to you and yours
Oh, by the way. There is one constellation in there that does not really belong with the others because it is a northern hemisphere system. (W) The other two are equatorial and southern systems.

You know Tom, now that you have brought it up, we or should I say ya'all, have been discussing flash photography and so on but no one has addressed the critical preparation of specimens for photographing. I can carve a ham or a turkey but do a cs or ls of a plant stem or other tissue I have no idea. Anyone have any suggestions for a homemade microtome without "cutting out" the flash photography discussions (no pun intended)

Hi ya' Ken
I can't carve a turkey or a Paramecium
I've used just about every hand microtome I could find for under $200 and I can't cut a section worth a darn. When the remainder of my "gain share" is paid to us in February I am going to purchase a used rotary microtome off of eBay. I've been wanting to prepare my own botanical and tissue samples since I got back into photomicrography. That was a big part of my job some 25+ years ago when I was a microscopist/forensic photographer for our county coroner's office.
Best regards as always,
