This is the spiney-tailed lizard. You can see why they got that name, even though the spines aren't huge. This one hangs out at our local zoo...His body is quite colorful, and I'll post a whole-lizard shot another time!

Interesting patterns here, Mike, caught with your usual skill.

The spines (to implicitly answer your rhetorical question :) ) don't quite pop. I am racking my brains as to how one might change angle or lighting to do better, but without any useful results.
