Goodyear blimp of the protists!

Image

I felt like a challange today, so I chased a coleps around with the 100X! Thanks to the foot-switch and flash I was able to get a few shots. Fascinating details in the (calcium carbonate) body plates.

Olympus 100/1.40, 3.3X photo-eyepiece. Canon 10D. Oblique brightfield with electronic flash.

That is so awesome, it brings me to tears! How do you get such artistic separation from the background? I have been experimenting with PhotoShop smudge tool and clone stamp set at 30% opacity, but your work tells me I have a long way to go.

I have to agree with the rest Charlie, that is one clean image there. :D Sort of looks like a hand grenade sequence shot just after having removed the pin and releasing the handle.
