I'm new to the world of the really, really small so I have no idea what this is. It looks like a nematode inside of some kind of casing. This is from pond water shot @ 100x magnification.

Non-prophet... Dominique has the answer. As you explore, you will probably encounter many instances where you will find other creatures rummaging around in the "carapace" of dead water-fleas and such.

Sometimes they are absolutely full of a variety of creatures, as is the case here
