Indusae/Sori

Post by Ken Ramos »

I posted an image here while back of the spores on the undeside of a fern leaf, after having been released. Note the arrow at about the 11 o'clock position off center, and you can see the indusae releasing the spores. These things are interesting to watch as they appear like a snake raising its head back to strike but then snapping forward and bursting open with quite a bit of speed to catapault the spores into the air. As you can see the underside of the leaf is littered with tiny spores. :D
