Fairies

Post by Edwin Bont »

This is a Ladybug dat feeds on mildew.
They are active throughout the year.
I catched some today and took them into the "ministudio"
This is my setup (do'nt laugh): http://members.lycos.nl/eddysign2/Macro/opstelling.jpg
I used a flash with a softbox.
The ceiling and the side bounces off the light making the light very soft.
i used a printed photo for the background (the background in the pictures is no photoshop), i used several diverent pictures.
I am still experimenting for the perfect natural lightsetup, but this made me happy.

These photos are amazing! Beautiful. And the "Fairies" name is appropriate. The pastel colors are lovely.

These are very nice Edwin, especially the first and the last image. I took a look at your lightbox. Very cool! The same thing has been going around in my head here of late, after seeing the light box we use at the textile dyeing plant where I work. As Mike said, the pastel colours are beautiful and the title of your post quite fitting. :D

Great shots Edwin! Now how do you get the ladybird to open his wings?? Using printed sky photo for background is genius. Think of the possibilities...

I don't hear anyone laughing at your setup... :o

These are fantastic. For those of us who have winter, the thought of productive indoor photography is a good thing :)

Even for us in the tropics there are certain things better done indoors with a studio set-up.
I will definitely try a similar approach for my newly collected Boxer mantis!

That is a great setup :D . Beautiful images with the wings opened and a good in your face for that second shot.

I just thought of something: with so many photos of the ladybug taking off, you must be chasing the little guy all over the room after every shot!

Great shots, and very pleasant to look at. Many macros out there are good but they are not pleasant to the eye. The ones here are!
