Need Help To Identify A Flower

Danny, Michael, and I (Tom) couldn't be happier and more impressed with our members and friends! It would be wonderful if we all got to know each other better. Here's a forum to post images and short autobiographies of ourselves as well as any other info you would like to post about yourself. We are looking forward to meeting you all!

Need Help To Identify A Flower

Post by georgedingwall »

Hi All,

I bought a bunch of flowers on the way home today, with a view to doing a bit of macro or close-up work on them. I can identify all but one of the blooms in the bunch.

I wonder if there are a few flower experts out there who might know the name of this flower? Each flower head is about 2 inches across.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Flower I.D.

Post by mvbrooks »

I'm not expert but we have a bunch of these growing in our back yrad, here in Pregon. We call them Dahlia's. To be really specific, your's is a "Bristol Stripe" variety/color of Dahlia. If you are inter4ested, there is a lot of information on the web at /www.paradisegarden.com on these.

Hi Mike,

I don't think they can be the Bristol Stripe, as those are 6 inches or more across. The flower I'm trying to identify is only 2 inches or less across on each bloom.

I did think about Dahlias, but most of them seem to be much larger than 2 inches.

Thanks for the info. Bye for now.

Might be Mums or Batchlors Buttons, not sure but they look familar. My grandmother was a flower person and had all sorts of flowers around her home when I was growing up. :D

BTW George, your image is exceedingly large but beautiful!

Hi Ken,

Sorry about the large image, but I wanted to make it big enough for viewrs to see the details. I thought the image limit in the forum was 150KB. If I'm mistaken, I apollogise. I'd better read the rules again.

Anyway, I've heard from another source that the flower is a "Spray Chrysanthemum", but it would be difficult to ID the exact variety. Is that what your mean when you say "Mums".

I too like the close up of this flower. I might print this out large scale.

Thanks for the info. Bye for now.

Hi George :D

It maybe a "Spray Chrysanthemum", I am not sure nor am I even quaintly familar with flowers. I just remember my grandmother fussing over hers. She really loved them.

I was not referring to the image file size but the demensions of the image, 640 pixels max. on either side. It is a lovely photograph however and would make a nice print. :D

Hi Ken,

Message understood about the size thing.

I was originally going to make 2 separate images and show them one after the other, but thought doing them side by side would help with identification.

I'll remember for next time. :D
