Male Bigger than the Female?

Here is a shot of two flies mating. As you can see, the male is much bigger than the female. The photo is not that good, the flies were way in the underbrush and I only took two shots and this one was the best, but the subject matter was interesting. Usually the Female is bigger. Second picture is of a single fly same species. .
