Sweetwater Wetlands is where I collect

Danny, Michael, and I (Tom) couldn't be happier and more impressed with our members and friends! It would be wonderful if we all got to know each other better. Here's a forum to post images and short autobiographies of ourselves as well as any other info you would like to post about yourself. We are looking forward to meeting you all!

Sweetwater Wetlands is where I collect

Post by Steve West »

The Sweetwater Wetlands is a small reserve here in Tucson AZ. It's the closest and virtually the only water conveniently available to me (about 10 minutes drive away). Here you see the ducks enjoying one of the open water areas.

Although it looks beautiful, it is the last stage of a sewage treatment plant where the water seeps back into the water table, so it doesn't smell so good. However, the water is rich with micro organisms. There is lots of standing water that looks like this:

:D You know I would almost give up a couple of my mountain spots for your treatment pond. What better place for a protozoologist to have handy. From the photograph you would never know it to be a treatment or settling pond, beautiful. :D

Hi ya' Steve :D

We have a similar water treatment project at "The Water Ranch" in Gilbert. It doesn't have an odor, however. The banks aren't nearly as nicely vegetated as your pond and Heaven forbid should there be pond scum. I'd go collecting there but it's nearly 30 miles from my front door. Your pond looks great! :D
