Nice image Charlie - I'm in Thailand 8) at present using a dial-up connection, so things are a little slow. Should be back in the UK in a few days and can start posting images again. Meantime, the food is great and it's about time for another beer!

All the best,

Nice picture, Ken - I always find them difficult to photograph, but they are indeed fascinating creatures.

I'm going to be away for 3 weeks after this weekend, so won't be posting for a while - holiday in Thailand. Unfortunately not able to take a 'scope...

Piotr: Yes I have read the Micscape articles, belatedly, after I started my own experiments and they have much useful info. Will: I have not pursued the Canon S50 hotspot problem because the Aiptek camera without IR filter is more sensitive. There is a slight trace of a hotspot with this also, and i...

Infrared Photomicrography

It is early days yet, but I wanted to tell you about my latest experiments. I have come across the use of near IR for taking landscape pictures with a digital camera. Apparently some cameras are quite sensitive to near IR, despite internal filtering. I tried my Powershot S50 out by aiming it at a TV...

These images were taken using Leica long working distance objectives that came my way after being thrown out from my ex-workplace... fortunately, I still have contacts there! These objectives are especially useful with aquarium slides, where there is considerable sample depth. http://www.gpmatthews....

It's Rotifer Week! - Rotifer neptunis

I think I posted an image of this beast about a year ago, but here is a specimen from this year's pond water. Not up to Charlie's wonderful images, but working on it... http://www.gpmatthews.nildram.co.uk/animalcules/rotifers/r_neptunis003.jpg and a detail from this image: http://www.gpmatthews.nild...
