Another Testate amoeba

http://www.photomacrography1.net/images/fo_9084.jpg Spent the better part of an afternoon wathing this guy. Fortunately it turned "over" as it approached some algae and I was able to photograph the aperture. It was a fun creature to watch. The pseudopods were virtually invisible with regular bright...

Keratella rotifer

http://www.photomacrography1.net/images/fo_0329.jpg I wanted to try and show the configuration and texture of this rotifer, but depth-of-field made it impossible to do with a single exposure. So I used the program Combine4z to combine several layers of images. The appearance of Keratella rotifers a...

Graham,

Hydrodictyon or "water net"

Thanks! I think you may have nailed it. How on earth do you find these pages?

Feeding frenzy, paramecium, urocentrum turbo

http://www.photomacrography1.net/images/for_3215.jpg I had a slide that presented a "feeding frenzy". The urocentrum turbo (which was spinning like a top, and I could ID thanks to one of Tom's great video clips) and the paramecium (and others) were chowing down on the thousands of little organisms ...

Algal pattern

http://www.photomacrography1.net/images/for_alg.jpg I was really intrigued by the pattern in this (unidentified) algae. It took a bit of looking and a couple slides to find a section that was flattened properly by the coverslip to photograph at the needed magnification. 40X objective, 2.5X photo-ob...

Lee,

Thanks.

I made up a small "tank" about 12mm (front to back) x 50mm x 50mm.

I put the bug inside and then waited until it struck a "pose" I liked.

Regards,

Charlie

Diameter

Piotr,
If I'm remembering the objective I used properly, it would make the overall diameter about 180um (microns)

Arcella discoides ?

Daphnia detail

http://www.photomacrography1.net/images/for_5154.jpg Grahams daphnia made me think of this shot. I've fooled around a little bit with polarization on living subjects, and this daphnia was one of the subjects that responded best. His opinion that polarization with this subject is worth a try is seco...

Really nice Graham! When you run Combin4z do you usually run it as "Combine" or "Average"? It can be a very useful program, but I need to practice with it more. It seems you need to " think ahead" when taking pictures in anticipation of using the program so that you get a series that will come toget...

Stentor. Again, I'm intriqued by the motion of the cilia.
