Beautiful texture in the first image; difficult light in the second one, but you made the most of the moment.
What was the outcome of the mismatch?

My contribution to sunflower week.
From a flower arrangement of my wife. A miniature sunflower.
(No insects in sight - although sometime later it was crawling with caterpillars of some sort or other .)

Some 'handful' here, Mike. I always like your world of reptiles, as you capture these patterns in a unique way. NZ is a snakefree country, not even snakes in zoos (as far as I know). Some years ago sombody lost a snakeskin in Auckland (on a way to a party, must have been part of a costume), causing ...

weevil?
I found this highly metallic creature walking up one of the windows. The shot was taken from the outside, the flash producing the twofold reflection. Obviously, this fellow had a brush with cobwebs on his journey. http://www.math.auckland.ac.nz/~hafner/macro/weevil4242.jpg Dynax 7D @ ISO 400 100mm m...

Grandparents of all countries, unite! :D Next to the actual grandchildren, there is no better sight than proud grandparents (says he whose 4 grandkids live far away in Sydney and Hong Kong). A big welcome to Gabriel, and congratulations to parents and grandparents. Thanks for sharing your good news,...

I'm coming in a bit late here, but anyway, it is a good feeling to be selected for this honour. This forum is a real pleasure: so much to see, so much to learn - all in a very friendly atmosphere. The untiring work of the moderators makes it all tick over smoothly, great work by Tom, Danny, Sue and ...

On my window... (ant-ics)
http://www.math.auckland.ac.nz/~hafner/macro/ant8521.jpg Bringing together two of my obsessions: the love-hate relationship with ants, and shooting at windows or mirrors. One of the ants walked more or less horizontally along the glass, holding a dead ant's antenna firmly with its mandibles, lettin...

Very nice image, Rey. Nicely caught at 1/2 sec. The white spotted tussock moth had all of New Zealand scared when it suddenly appeared in Auckland's eastern suburbs in 1996. This lead to intensive aerial spraying over some suburbs. Looks like this yellow one also has a dangerously healthy appetite. ...

What a great shot, Ken! Fabulous composition with that nobbly twig against a superb background. I have yet to see a spider carrying an egg sac around. On my monitor the spider looks a bit dark, maybe you should have borrowed Sue's reflectors to throw more light on the matter (hope she will recover s...
