It could be a Brachionus rotifer but I can't see the foot, it could be retracted. If it does not have a foot it could be a Keratella.

Did you try this:

I hope you will see many more interesting organisms!

Dinobryon stack

I have been a bit sitlent becaue of work and travelling. I didn't do much micro, more macro. It is summer so I try to spend more time outdoors :) So this is one I took some time ago. Thanks! no, normally I don't trap them. :D It is much more fun to photograph in the wild. Beetles are slow flyers and you can forsee when they are going to take off so you have just enough time to make the picture.

a little wasp

This small wasp was flying around an area where sand bees burrow. It could be that this species lies its eggs on the larvae of such bees. I'll have to look up what it is.

That is a good solution indeed. But don't rule out my funny looking solution because it will work too and without any extras. It is a light solution as well. But I prefer a flash that is a bit outwards so the light comes more from the side.

That's right. but the true secret is of course hypnosis:) I caught this beetle but normally I photograph them in the wild. Much more fun. In this case I did photograph it in the wild but I had too strong reflections becaue my flash was too close to the camera. So at home I could place two flashes on...

Dear Charles, Brilliant images of a beetle larva. Last week I attended the opening of the European Desk of the Annals of improbable research. (It opened here in Rotterdam, there must be something funny about this city:) Perhaps the smiling beetle larva would be interesting for them? They are always ...
