Mike ... used a Canon Rebel XT. I always use electronic flash if the subject is moving. And I need it now more than ever with DIC, as shutter speeds can get pretty slow with those two polarizers in there.

Floscularia tube building

OK so here's a few more Floscularia shots, this time concentrating on the manufacture of the circular "bricks". Something of a follow-up to this posting: http://www.photomacrography1.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4831 The top image shows a "cloud" of excrement that has come out of the tube. You can see ...

Bernhard... I'm glad you have corrected my clumsy ID. It is, of course, Floscularia. I actually knew this...sad to see that my ID'ing capability is actually declining instead of improving :( see: http://www.photomacrography1.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2456 It shows the round "bricks" being mad...

Thanks Ken. Don't know how hard or easy these are to find... fortunately the pond I frequent seems to have a good supply. Since they do build their tubes they need a pretty reliable substrate, and they tend to occur in small groups. I find them on the lower side of duckweed leaves and attached to th...

I've never seen one, and it's hard to say from the pictures. Do you think it could be a an objective with a "built in" Lieberkuhn reflector?

Les... personally I gave up on the lab "cork borers" that some recommend because most of the plastics were too tough to cut that way. I wound up making the sizes I wanted in page layout software, and printed some on transparency material, and then carefully cut them out with a good scissors.. For ot...

... I'll tell you Wim... I was about ready to pull a bottle of Jenever out of the freezer and look for a pair of pliers (and do a little self-dentristry) the other night! When I first set up my microscope the first samples of water I inspected just happened to be full of bdelloid rotifers. I've been...
