Oedogonium zoospore

Zoospore release (vegetative reproduction) of Oedogonium spec.
Oedogonium species are unbranched filamentous green algae, with motile
zoospores. This small sequence of 4 pics just took 3 minutes. First the alga
filament breaks and the spore squeezes out slowly. Before it can swim free, it has to
break through the jelly cover (pic 2 and 3). At least, it swims away and makes a new filament
somewhere else.
Objective 40x, DIC, flash.

I've seen these before but did not know what they were called. An interesting sequence of shots there Gerd. :D I didn't know they did that. :-k

This is great Gerd. I was totally puzzled by these when I posted this: http://www.photomacrography1.net/forum/ ... php?t=4131 , but this sequence is very informative. Very well done!
