Loxodes spp.

Mass reproduction of Loxodes on the bottom of my favourite pond.
These are rather big ciliates, take a look through the stereo microscope at low magnification.
The upper picture taken with a 20x Objective, focused to the pellicula,
the lower one with 40x Objective, focused to the middle of the cell.
electronic flash.
Thanks,
Gerd

Hello Gerd,

Really nice shots. It appears you are using two different techniques - top one being BF and the bottom DIC, both very well done.

Hope it's starting to warm up a bit - I was in Frankfurt a few weeks ago and it was wet and cold, not much of a spring.

All the best,
Mike

Hello Mike, thank you for your comment. Both shots are DIC,
but with different condenser prisms and different adjustment of the
objective prism. The upper one with less contrast, effect more like brightfield, that's correct.
Yes, summer has come this year to Germany without spring. After a cold and rainy
March and April too temperatures jumped from 5 to 25 degrees Celsius within 4 days,
it really knocked me out while working outside in the fields !
And the summer temperatures of about 25-28 degrees still continue until now,
nature is exploding !
